The advantages of oil-free vacuum pumps in industrial processes

Rolling spray repair

Metal spray coating is a long-established process in the rolling spray industry and uses thermal evaporation techniques in a vacuum environment. A thin layer of metal, most commonly aluminum, adheres to paper, polyethylene (PE), or other polymer films, creating a strong, attractive packaging that protects against moisture, dust and light. . This is an ideal material for food applications because it keeps the product fresh and extends its shelf life. This process is also increasingly used to produce decorative papers, gift wraps and films.

A large reel (up to 2 meters wide) with a backing material (paper or PE film) was used in the process and they were safely placed in the winding chamber. These reels rotate continuously - allowing the substrate material to pass through the diaphragm at high speed into the spray booth (Figure 1). The spray booth requires a very high vacuum, between 10-4 and 10-5 mbar, and the winding chamber can maintain a low vacuum, approximately 10-2 mbar. Spraying is the result of a thermal evaporation process in which the metal is heated so that it vaporizes and then deposits on the substrate material.
