Wooden furniture testing new national standard launch

The new national standard pays more attention to environmental protection and brings "gospel" to wardrobe consumers.

Many wardrobe consumers seriously want to return due to odor during the use of the wardrobe, wardrobe manufacturers have asked for proof of pollution data. This requirement puts the wardrobe consumer in a dilemma. Because closet contamination detection usually requires the dismantling of the wardrobe, the detected wardrobe cannot normally be put into normal use. Therefore, consumers often have to go through ideological struggles when sending their wardrobes for difficult inspections. If they are not sent for detection, there is no way to know about the pollution data on the wardrobe, and there will be no definitive evidence for rights protection. For example, consumers will bear the cost of wardrobe testing. Have to lose a set of wardrobes. The new national standard that emerged at this time became a timely rain for wardrobe consumers to solve problems.

It is understood that the purchased wardrobe may become an important part of home pollution. The pollution caused by the wardrobe is mainly due to the unqualified formaldehyde emission. Part of the original is the wardrobe raw materials, excessive formaldehyde content, part of the wardrobe and the suture glue to carry formaldehyde, in addition to wardrobe production technology behind the company. Among them, the formaldehyde in the artificial board sandwich adhesive usually takes 8 to 15 years to evaporate.

The main source of VOCs for the next wardrobe is a paint film coating and the like on the closet surface. The revised "National Standard for Limits of Hazardous Substances in Wood Furniture" will show that the amount of formaldehyde released in the closet should be less than or equal to 0.1 mg/m. The biggest highlight of the new national standard is to clearly define the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including benzene ≤ 0.11 mg/m, toluene ≤ 0.20 mg/m, xylene ≤ 0.20 mg/m, and total volatile organic compounds. (TVOC) ≤ 0.60 mg/m.

In addition, the "new standard" will also specify the amount of volatile organic compounds emitted. The current "National Standard for the Limitation of Hazardous Substances in Wood Furniture for Interior Decoration Materials" stipulates that the amount of formaldehyde released from wooden furniture sold on the market should be less than or equal to 1.5 mg/L. People in the industry believe that after the implementation of the new standard, wardrobe companies will inevitably strengthen the detection and management of paint used in wardrobes.

The new standard not only improves the market access threshold for wardrobe products, it also integrates and purifies the industries of the wardrobe industry, and it also directly increases the environmental protection monitoring of wardrobes.

The "Climate Cabin" test method does not have to decompose the furniture. It is not difficult to see from the changes in the above-mentioned detection standards that the amount of released formaldehyde is changed from less than or equal to 1.5 mg/L to less than or equal to 0.1 mg/m3, and the amount of new volatile organic compounds emitted is increased. Also used in the mg/m3 unit of measure, why there is such a change? An industry source told reporters that this is a fundamental change in detection methods.

When purchasing furniture, consumers usually buy furniture according to the characteristics of the room. For example, bedroom furniture usually includes bedroom cabinets, beds, nightstands, low cabinets, and dressing tables. The person in the industry told reporters that according to the current "Restriction Standards for Hazardous Substances in Wood Furniture", the use of a desiccator detection method for wood furniture is to remove an area not exceeding 50mm from the edge of each piece of furniture. A sample of 0.075 square meters (150 mm x 50 mm) of the plate was placed in a desiccator and the temperature of the desiccator was set to 20C. These samples will be placed in a desiccator for 24 hours, after which the concentration of formaldehyde in the distilled water they release will be tested to determine if the formaldehyde content of the furniture is acceptable.

However, due to the large differences between the actual area of the finished furniture and furniture and the area of the test sample, for example: the production of a set of five-door cabinets requires nearly 10 square meters of sheet, while the inspection only selects 0.075 square meters of sheet, both A hundred times different, so the results of this test method are not accurate.

After the introduction of the new standard, the detection furniture will use the "climatic chamber" detection method, that is, the furniture will be placed in a constant temperature and humidity room for testing, which can accurately reflect the overall situation of the release of harmful substances in furniture inspection, as long as there is an indicator Not up to the standard, can be reflected in the test results.

The “Climate Cabin” test method requires that the inspection furniture be placed in an environment with a temperature of 23°C and a humidity of 45% for pretreatment for 120 hours, and then it must be put into the “Climate Cabin” within one hour for testing. When testing, all moving parts of the furniture (including doors, drawers, etc.) should be fully opened.

Since the "Climate Cabin" test method does not require any "reconstruction" of the furniture, it will not affect the use of the test. More importantly, this detection method is closer to the daily use of furniture. “Climate Cabin” actually simulates the day-to-day environment in which furniture is placed. In this environment, it is checked whether the release amount of harmful substances is qualified. The result is more accurate.

The new standard promotes the progress of the enterprise It is understood that the new standard of the “Mechanical Performance Test of Furniture” covers the strength, durability and stability of furniture such as tables, chairs and stools, cabinets, and single-layer beds, among which the stability of cabinets Many amendments and additions have been made. For example, the stability criteria for cabinets have increased the determination of the center of gravity, the shelf stability tests have been modified, and the stability of loading of non-fixed cabinet moving parts has been opened. In terms of table strength and durability, the tabletop horizontal static load test method when the tabletop is irregularly shaped and the tabletop horizontal endurance test method when the tabletop is irregularly shaped are added.

For the forthcoming National Standard for the Limitation of Hazardous Substances in Wood Furniture, future furniture can be placed in the environment and climate chamber as a whole for testing, and the furniture will not be destroyed after the inspection. The new standard will increasingly monitor the furniture industry. Non-destructive testing will be used to replace the damage detection, and the “climate chamber detection method” will be adopted to replace the existing “atmospheric detection method”. The so-called "climate chamber detection method" is to conduct tests in a room that maintains a constant temperature and humidity, which can accurately reflect the overall actual release of poisonous and harmful substances from the inspection home.

Zhu Changling, chairman of the China Furniture Association, said that the new detection method “Climate Chamber Detection Method” is more conducive to the determination of the release of formaldehyde and other harmful substances: “During the inspection, it is no longer necessary to disassemble the furniture. Into the climatic box as a whole detection, so that not only will not damage the furniture, and as long as there is a material environmental protection is not up to standard, can be reflected in the integrated test results.” And Beijing Home Industry Association vice president and secretary-general Liu Chen He said that although these two standards are non-mandatory national standards, they have a catalytic effect on the development of the industry. “Standards can be turned into tools that enhance the height of the company, which in turn spurs the progress of the company.”

The future standards will be more strict Zhu Changling, chairman of the China Furniture Association, believes that the formulation of future standards will be closer to three aspects: First, safety, second, health, and third, environmental protection. "When the technology and technology are developed to a certain stage, the detection on the process will be gradually weakened. The strengthening is the three aspects of safety, health and environmental protection. Like the new standard of the "Fine Mechanics Performance Test", it is aimed at safety; The "National Standard for Limits of Hazardous Substances in Wood Furniture" is about environmental protection and safety."

Here, Chairman Zhu Rong reminded consumers that when choosing furniture, it should pay attention to whether the proportion of furniture is coordinated. Try not to choose furniture with a long, wide, and high proportion of disparity; and pay attention to the furniture material, the best choice of solid wood, thickness should match the use of features; the final attention to design details, such as the design of the drawer slide is strong, chair Whether the inclination of the backrest is reasonable or not. When consumers purchase furniture, they feel that the irritating odor is too large. At the same time, the merchants cannot provide real and reliable standards for the detection of ring marks. They can first submit the products for inspection to see if they meet the standards and use them again.
