Battle of the engine

The 2008 Olympics-China Le Mans Light-Card Endurance Tournament trials have been held in four competition areas in East China, South China, Southwest China, and Northeast China. This is the Truck Extreme Driving Contest sponsored by the China Association of Automobile Sports and common people can participate. It is a comprehensive test and evaluation of the reliability of complete vehicles and spare parts. Among them, the "heart" engine of the vehicle is the biggest challenge of overall performance.

The game system and rules of the game are different: the same model (Ohler light truck) and the same configuration (gearbox, drive train, and modification are all the same), and the four participating teams use different engines to compete for 12 hours. They are: Chaoyang CY4100ZLQ, Yangchai YZ4102ZLQ, Yunnei Power 4100QBZL and Perkins PHASER 110Ti diesel engines. So this endurance race can really be called a real engine battle.

Who will win in this unique engine battle? Below we make some comments on the performance of these four engines and make bold predictions about the events.

From the data point of view, these four engines have basically the same structure. They are all inline 4-cylinder turbocharged designs with intercoolers. The displacement is also relatively close, between 3 and 4 liters. The performance of these four diesel engines depends mainly on the commissioning and optimization performed by various manufacturers.

Dongfeng Chaochai’s engine displacement is 3707ml larger in these 4 engines. Relative to this displacement, the power of 70KW is not prominent. The main reason is due to the low commissioning of this engine. The ratio of bore formation to 100 x 118 is a typical long-stroke design. This design enables the engine to have excellent low torque, but the engine speed is not high. Of course, this kind of adjustment can pull heavier goods, but its acceleration is not good for the game. In addition, the problem of low torque is also caused by the high fuel consumption of the engine. The same is the output power of 70KW, and the specific fuel consumption of 220 is 10% higher than the 210 of "Yunnet Power".

Although Yangchai's displacement is only 3,432ml, it has a relatively good power level and the power of 81KW is the largest among these four engines. The 310NM's torque is also excellent, and the 210's specific fuel consumption is further evidence of the engine's excellent work efficiency. However, like Chaochai, the low engine speed is a good engine for daily use, but for racing, it may have limited acceleration and extreme speed. The weight of the 340KG also affects the acceleration performance and maneuverability in the game.

The Perkins engine is a typical low-speed, high-torque engine. The largest displacement, the largest power and the largest torque, but the largest weight and fuel consumption. Whether it is for commercial operations or 12-hour endurance, fuel consumption is an important measure of performance. Because the larger fuel consumption will directly affect the mileage of the car, increase the number of refueling, and waste travel time. If a large-capacity fuel tank is forcibly designed, it will affect the acceleration and the maneuverability of the curve due to the excessive weight. In addition, this Perkins engine, speed is the lowest of these four engines. This kind of performance index is not suitable for playing. Therefore, although this Perkins engine has the largest displacement, power, and torque among these four engines, it is not very suitable for this cruel and harsh 12-hour endurance race.

In contrast, Yunnei's power may be adjusted to be more performance-oriented and racing. Although the power of 70KW is not the largest, but the engine displacement is only 3.3 liters. Compared with the same power of 3.7 liters, Chaoyang Diesel CY4100ZLQ, the displacement is smaller by 400ML and the torque is larger by 10NM, so it has a higher working efficiency. At the same power, smaller displacement means lighter weight; higher efficiency means lower fuel consumption. The specific fuel consumption of 210 is the lowest among these four engines. From the perspective of speed matching, Yunnei 4100QBZL is also more racing. The maximum power broke out at 3200 rpm, and the maximum torque was released from 2000 to 2200 rpm. This kind of debugging can give the car better acceleration and continuity, especially the rear-stage acceleration performance. The advantage of power on the straight is obvious. The smaller displacement makes this engine the smallest of these four engines. The weight of 210KG can make the distribution of the center of gravity of the vehicle more reasonable, and the performance of the curve is even more.

Of course, these are just individual opinions and predictions of the reporters, which are not necessarily correct. And evaluating a good or bad engine can't be decided by a game with a game. In the arena, the situation is also ever-changing. In the end who can get the best results depends not only on the vehicle and the engine, but also on logistical support, maintenance, the level of the driver, the play of the scene, etc. What's more, there are many accidents. the elements of.
