Bus fire in Northbrook

Tim Olk was driving yesterday when he spotted a plume of smoke rising from a PACE transit bus parked at the Metra station on Lake-Cook Road in Northbrook. Curious, he followed the smoke and arrived just as Northbrook Engine 10 was responding to the scene. The fire had already started in the engine compartment of the bus, causing significant damage. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported. Tim captured several photos of the incident, showing firefighters working to contain the blaze. One image shows a Northbrook lieutenant overseeing his crew as they doused the flames in the Metra parking lot. Another photo highlights the pump operator from Engine 10 connecting to a hydrant to boost water supply for the firefighting effort. The fire, which occurred on June 9, 2011, serves as a reminder of how quickly emergencies can arise and how quickly first responders are on the scene. Tim’s photographs provide a clear visual account of the situation and the quick action taken by the Northbrook Fire Department. You can view more images from this event in Tim’s gallery [HERE].
