The Fox Lake Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 36378 N. Wesley Road on Monday before 11 a.m. Upon arrival, the first units encountered heavy smoke coming from an occupied one-story frame building. The incident was quickly escalated, and Round Lake Fire Department sent an engine for mutual aid support.
Jeff Rudolph captured several photos of the scene, offering a rare glimpse into the emergency response. One image shows the area labeled "Sector A" after the fire was knocked down, highlighting the intensity of the operation. Another photo features a Fox Lake firefighter inspecting the attic for hot spots, showing the careful post-fire investigation that follows such incidents.
A notable detail in the photos is the use of a portable water tank by Fox Lake Engine 2222, as the area lacks hydrants. The engine, built by Alexis on a Spartan chassis, played a crucial role in the firefighting efforts. In the background, the Fox Lake squad was also on standby, ready to assist as needed.
Round Lake’s Engine 2214, which arrived as part of the mutual aid effort, was constructed by US Tanker on a Spartan chassis. This collaboration between departments is common during large-scale emergencies, ensuring sufficient resources are available.
Fox Lake Engine 2222 was the first unit on the scene, equipped with a heated enclosure for the pump operator, a feature that enhances comfort and efficiency during long operations. Another image shows a firefighter standing by with the squad, demonstrating the coordinated teamwork required in such situations.
One of the more unique vehicles involved was the Fox Lake Tender 2264, nicknamed “Tankzilla.†Built by Alexis, it features an enclosed operator's console and was clearly a key asset in the operation. A smaller image of another vehicle is also included, giving a broader view of the equipment deployed.
