Lake Villa is on the site

After adding another Lake County (Division 4) department to the site, I wanted to share some insights about the unique setup of the Lake Villa Fire Department/Lake Villa Fire District/Lake Villa Rescue Squad. These organizations operate out of three different fire stations in Lake Villa and Lindenhurst, each with its own history and structure. The downtown station, owned by the privately operated Lake Villa Fire Department, is responsible for fundraising in addition to providing contracted services to the Fire District. Meanwhile, the other two stations, including their firefighting vehicles, belong to the Lake Villa Fire District. All the ambulances across these stations—white and blue—are managed by the Lake Villa Rescue Squad. The Lake Villa Fire Department station in the heart of downtown has seen quite the transformation since its inception. Originally built, it has undergone three distinct expansions, each marked by an engraved stone indicating the year of construction. Today, the station boasts eight bays, each serving a critical role in maintaining the department’s operational efficiency. One of the standout pieces of equipment at Station 1 is the 2009 Pierce Arrow XT engine, which stands as the latest addition to their fleet of firefighting vehicles. With the exception of a 1973 CF-Mack/Welch, all other fire suppression vehicles are manufactured by Pierce, including four engines, a pumper/squad, a 105-foot aerial ladder, and two tankers, most of which run on Dash chassis. Turning our attention to the rescue squad, they currently operate five Ford/Osage Type III ambulances, painted in the classic blue and white scheme. There are plans for two new ambulances, expected to arrive soon, which will be painted red and branded under the Lake Villa Fire District name, aligning with the existing units. A particularly noteworthy piece in their collection is the 1973 CF-Mack that underwent a comprehensive refurbishment by Welch, featuring a brand-new body with high-side compartments. Another fascinating unit is the 1989/1990 CF-Mack/Pierce hybrid, notable for its four-door conversion crafted by Pierce. Unlike standard Mack CF cabs where rear doors are flat and recessed, this unit maintains the seamless design from front to back, preserving the original contours. Among the antiques, the 1933 Pirsch remains in pristine condition, a testament to its meticulous maintenance. Another highlight is the 1968 Mack CF engine, Engine 621, equipped with a 750-gallon water capacity and a 1,000-GPM pump. These older models stand as a reminder of the department’s rich history and evolution in firefighting technology. As someone who enjoys delving into the details of local emergency services, I found this setup both intriguing and efficient. It’s clear that the Lake Villa Fire Department has worked hard to balance tradition with modern innovation, ensuring they remain prepared for any situation that arises.
