It was just after 9 AM on Tuesday when the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District got a call from the Lincolnshire Marriott Hotel. The caller reported an incident involving chemicals, and several employees were feeling unwell. Upon arrival, the first responders noticed a strong chemical odor and quickly initiated a preliminary investigation. The emergency level was elevated, prompting hazmat teams from Long Grove, Buffalo Grove, and Countryside to rush to the scene.
Thankfully, none of the affected employees required hospitalization. After identifying the substances involved—various cleaning products—a specialized entry team ventured into the hotel's service area. They safely collected the potentially harmful materials into two sealed containers, ready for disposal by a licensed waste management company.
All firefighters and their equipment that had been exposed to the hazardous environment underwent thorough decontamination procedures, effectively wrapping up the operation. Larry Shapiro provided us with several photographs capturing moments from the incident.
