Man dies after electrocution in Addison, 3-28-17

A 51-year-old man lost his life and another was critically injured Tuesday afternoon when they were electrocuted by power lines while trimming trees in a backyard in Addison.

José Fulgencio-Hueramo, from Melrose Park, was pronounced dead shortly before noon at Glen Oaks Hospital in Glendale Heights.

At around 11 a.m., Fulgencio-Hueramo and another individual were cutting branches in a backyard near Villa Avenue and Myrick Avenue in Addison when both came into contact with the power lines.

One person fell from the ladder and landed on the ground, while the other remained stuck in the tree. After ComEd shut off the power, firefighters from Lombard and Addison arrived to safely extract the man from the tree. The injured individual was later airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

"They managed to cut the power, and then firefighters from Lombard and Addison went up there and rescued the man from the tree," said Joe Leone, the Addison fire chief.

Police mentioned that the victims did not appear to be affiliated with a licensed tree-cutting company.

The exact cause of how they came into contact with the power lines remains unclear.
