On October 14, 2019, I found myself rushing to cover the 2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago. By the time I got there, things had already escalated to an emergency evacuation. As I arrived, I could see that the situation had turned critical when they sounded the alarm for an internal collapse. I managed to capture some decent shots, but it was a challenging assignment. The sun was harsh, making it difficult to get clear photos, and the thick, low-hanging smoke only added to the complexity of the task. The building itself was unique, with its own set of access challenges that made capturing the scene even more complicated.
All the images you see here were taken during this intense moment. Despite the obstacles, I tried my best to document what unfolded.

The conditions were far from ideal, but it’s always important to capture these moments to honor those who risk their lives to protect others.
