2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 1-8-17

Here's a message from Eric Haak:

This morning at 0715 hours (January 8th), the Chicago Fire Department responded to a fire at 4734 W. Huron in a 20×70, two-and-a-half-story frame apartment building. Engine 117 arrived on scene within a minute of being dispatched and confirmed the presence of a fire. Battalion 18 soon followed and reported that porches had extended into the first and second floors of the original structure, with the "D" side also involved. They requested a still and box, and the alarm was eventually upgraded to a 2-11. Temperatures were once again below freezing this morning, making conditions particularly challenging for the crews.

The photos show the intense effort by firefighters as they battled the blaze under extremely cold conditions. The icy environment made their work even more difficult, and many were seen covered in frost or ice as they worked to contain the fire. It's a reminder of the dedication and bravery of those who respond to emergencies, no matter how harsh the conditions.
