When Engine 121 arrived at the scene, the fire had already spread to the roof, and it looked like an explosion had occurred. The upper part of the second-floor exterior wall was blown out in Sector 4, and broken glass was scattered across Western Avenue. The building is a two-story brick restaurant named Franconello’s. A suspected gas leak caused an explosion that tore through an Italian restaurant in the West Beverly neighborhood on the city’s South Side, according to officials this morning. No injuries were reported at Franconello Italian Restaurant, located at 10220 S.
