On January 9, 2015, a three-alarm house fire broke out at 2519 Harrison Street in Evanston. Photographer Larry Shapiro captured powerful images of the scene, showing firefighters battling the blaze under harsh winter conditions.
Among the photos are striking shots of a Pierce Arrow XT fire engine arriving at the scene, firefighters covered in ice, and an aerial ladder surrounded by thick smoke. One image highlights a Battalion Chief from the Evanston Fire Department, while another captures a firefighter using a saw, his equipment encrusted with ice.
The collection also includes dramatic views of heavy smoke pouring from the burning home, a fire truck's outrigger accidentally hitting a car, and the MESS Canteen Service providing support at the scene.
