"Benz" warning system creates "safety" for occupants

Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, November 23 (Reporter Liu Xiang) When people encounter dangerous situations, people often panic and cannot take appropriate emergency measures. If the car can make an "instinctive response" immediately before the danger, it can further reduce the risk of personal injury. For this reason, Mercedes-Benz Germany has developed an early warning protection system that allows passengers to be protected to a certain extent in the event of an accident.

According to the November issue of the German "Science Pictorial", this type of warning protection system can close the open car sunroof, tighten the seat belt, adjust the seat back, and make the passenger's body a few seconds before the car gets out of control and may lead to a car accident. Maintain a certain degree of stability and ensure that airbags function effectively.

Karl Heinz Bowman, an engineer at Mercedes-Benz's technology center, said that so far the first concern is to avoid car accidents and reduce losses, and precious seconds before car accidents have not been well used in safety design. In this early warning system, the electronic box on the driver's seat belt can always check the data coming from the sensors located near the wheels, steering system and brake pedal, and analyze these data through a special calculation method in order to prevent accidents. The possibility of making judgments. When the vehicle is suddenly braked or slipped and the risk of accidents is high, the warning system will be activated so that the seat backs up and the head on the back of the seat will tilt slightly forward. At the same time, the seatbelt tensioner is activated to prevent passengers from being subjected to excessive impact when braking. This system can also reduce the distance that the passenger swings to both sides when the car skids to ensure the necessary distance between the person and the side airbag. In this way, once the car accident occurs, the side airbag can play a role. If a car accident does not occur, the system will return to its original state.

Bowman said that in the past, when the danger appeared, the active safety configuration of the car's electronic stability program, anti-skid brake system, and brake assist system would start immediately. The airbags and seat belts would provide the passengers with last protection when a car accident occurred. This system can combine the above protection systems and devices to provide overall security protection. According to analysis, this system can reduce the impact on the head and chest of passengers by 20% in the head-on collision.

Since October 2002, early warning systems have been installed on some models of Mercedes-Benz cars. It is expected that the next generation of Mercedes-Benz warning protection systems will be able to automatically close the side windows of the car. In addition, Mercedes-Benz experts plan to combine this protection system with radar sensors and cameras. In this way, the system not only can determine the possibility of car accidents, but also predict the type and severity of car accidents.
