Breakthrough Made in the Localization of Static Inverter for Large Pumped-storage Units in China

At 13:15 on May 24, China's first large-capacity pumped-storage power plant stationary start-up frequency converter successfully completed 90 MW of power storage, which was independently developed by the Xinjiayuan Panjiakou Power Plant and the State Grid Electric Power Research Institute. The on-grid pumping and start-up test of the unit can successfully achieve a breakthrough in the localization of large-scale pumped storage units.

Pumped-storage unit static start The frequency converter is the core control equipment of the pumped-storage power station, and it is responsible for the start-dragging task of the storage unit from stationary to pumping conditions. Due to the difficulty of production technology of this kind of products and the high cost, for a long time, the supply of inverters for static start-up of domestic large-capacity pumped storage units has been monopolized by ABB, CONVERTEAM and other foreign companies for a long time.

The 18MW/13.8kV high-power high-voltage static frequency converter successfully developed by Xinyuan Company's Panjiakou Power Plant and State Grid Institute of Electrical Power adopts AC-DC-AC current type thyristor frequency conversion startup method to realize load exchange. Phase-type frequency conversion, with the frequency conversion adjustment and start function of large synchronous motors, can realize the precise control of the pumping storage unit pumping start conditions, with complete independent intellectual property rights, will soon be demonstrated in the Panjiakou Pumped Storage Power Plant demonstration operation.

The static start-up frequency converter successfully completes all functional verification tests, which shows that China has mastered the core key technologies for the stationary start-up of the pumped-storage unit and has independent production capabilities. This is an important process for the complete localization of this equipment, and for the promotion of national equipment. Manufacturing is of great significance.
