House fire in Prospect Heights, 1-26-22

From the Prospect Heights Fire District: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 26, 2022 PROSPECT HEIGHTS – On Wednesday, January 26, at around 7:48 PM, the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District received a call about a fire at 108 Patricia Street in Prospect Heights. When the firefighters arrived, they discovered flames in the attic of a two-story house. Thick smoke was billowing out from every part of the roof, but thankfully, the fire hadn't yet spread inside the house. Within just a few minutes of their arrival, the first responding engine managed to direct a hose stream onto the flames and quickly put out the initial fire. The focus then shifted to tackling the fire that had spread within the roof and attic area. Concurrently, a thorough search of the home was conducted to confirm that everyone was safely outside. The fire was successfully brought under control and fully extinguished in less than 20 minutes, thanks to the efforts of over 40 firefighters who used two hose lines and multiple pieces of equipment. Approximately five engines, five water tankers, two aerial trucks, two ambulances, one rescue squad, and several chief officers were present at the scene. Assistance was also provided by neighboring departments including Des Plaines, Glenview, Mount Prospect, and Libertyville fire departments, along with the Elk Grove Township, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, and Long Grove fire protection districts. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Prospect Heights Fire Protection District urges residents to always have two clear escape routes from their homes, ensure smoke alarms are installed and functioning properly, and create an emergency plan in case of a fire or any other disaster. It's worth noting that fire sprinklers can significantly reduce risks to life and property. If this building had been equipped with fire sprinklers, the initial fire might have been contained or even extinguished entirely before the arrival of the fire department, potentially limiting damage to only the room where the fire originated. --- Below are some additional images taken by Larry Shapiro: ![Larry Shapiro photo](#) ![Larry Shapiro photo](#) ![Larry Shapiro photo](#) ![Larry Shapiro photo](#) ![Larry Shapiro photo](#) [Click here to view the full slideshow] This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety measures and the critical role of well-trained firefighters in our communities.
