Lisle-Woodridge FPD Dive Drill

Josh Boyajian shared some great photos from a **winter dive drill** conducted today by the Lisle-Woodridge Fire Protection District at a local pond on Front Street. The team practiced in an area where the ice was 7 inches thick, ensuring they were prepared for potential emergencies during the colder months. Squad 525 and Truck 517 were on site, providing support and equipment for the training. The dive team, known as Squad 525, is responsible for carrying all necessary gear and setting up a heated area for divers to get dressed before entering the water. This kind of preparation is crucial when working in extreme cold conditions. The drill also included a safety line stretched from the shore to the center of the pond, where divers had a large hole cut into the ice for their operations. One of the images shows firefighters assisting a diver out of the water while wearing specialized cold exposure suits. These suits are designed to protect emergency responders from hypothermia and other cold-related injuries. The training highlights the importance of teamwork, equipment readiness, and safety protocols during winter operations. The event not only tested the physical and technical skills of the firefighters but also reinforced the value of regular drills in maintaining a high level of preparedness. It’s always impressive to see how these teams adapt and train under challenging conditions to ensure public safety year-round.
