Firefighters responded to a three-story condominium building at 715 W. Central in Mount Prospect before 5:30 PM on Monday after reports of a fire in a top-floor unit. The first arriving crew noticed heavy smoke and upgraded the alarm to a working fire Code 4. The fire was located in a rear corner unit, and as it spread to the mansard roof with visible flames from the outside, a Box Alarm was called, bringing in additional units from surrounding departments. It took just 20 minutes for crews to contain the fire within the original unit. According to the Daily Herald, a resident was rescued from a third-floor balcony during the incident, which left 12 apartment units uninhabitable. One firefighter sustained minor injuries and was treated at Alexian Brothers Hospital, according to Battalion Chief Henry Dawson.
