New Lenox FPD news

From the New Lenox Fire Protection District (NLFPD) Facebook page:

On Sunday afternoon, two NLFPD staff vehicles were severely damaged after a pickup truck veered off Route 30 and crashed into them on district property.

The affected vehicles were a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban and a 2006 Ford Expedition, both of which were mainly used by the Fire and Life Safety Division. The crash occurred just after 1 p.m. at Station 1, located at 261 E. Maple Street.

A single individual was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, though no firefighters were injured in the incident. While the building itself suffered no major damage, there was some impact on the landscaping and exterior lighting.

"We're very grateful that no one was seriously hurt in this accident," said Chief Steve Engledow. "Vehicles can be replaced, but people cannot."

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and authorities are working to determine how the vehicle ended up on district grounds.

Photos from the scene show the extent of the damage, with both vehicles showing visible dents and broken glass. The community has responded with concern and support, with many commenting on the Facebook post to express their hope for the safety of all involved.

As of now, the NLFPD is continuing its routine operations while the investigation proceeds. Officials are also reminding drivers to stay alert, especially near emergency stations and public facilities.
