China's acetic acid industry has made great progress after nearly 10 years of development, developed the most advanced methanol carbonylation acetic acid production technology with independent intellectual property rights, narrowed the technological gap with foreign industry giants, and the production equipment scale from the past single set 100,000 tons/year has been upgraded to the current 400,000 tons/year, and key equipment manufacturing and catalytic technologies have also made great progress. In 2001, the country's acetic acid production capacity was only 1,059,000 tons. Currently, the annual production capacity has exceeded 6 million tons, accounting for 30% of the global total production capacity and 60% of the total production capacity in Asia. It has become the world's largest acetic acid production capacity. At the same time, however, the acetic acid industry in China is still inferior to international multinational giants in terms of competitiveness.
First of all, in the production of acetic acid, the overseas transnational giants and Middle Eastern companies still have considerable competitive advantages in raw materials. The biggest reason is that their raw materials, natural gas, are cheap. As far as acetic acid production raw material methanol is concerned, methanol plants located in the Middle East, New Zealand and other places use local rich natural gas as raw materials. According to calculations, the production cost of natural gas to methanol production is equivalent to RMB 1100 to 1200 yuan/ton, and the importer port pays The price of l500 ~ 1600 yuan / ton. Nearly 70% of the manufacturers in China use the coal-to-methanol production process. According to the current market price of coal and other processing costs, the cost of domestic coal-to-methanol production is nearly 2,200 yuan/ton, which is much higher than overseas. Therefore, in the international market, China's acetic acid production has no advantage in terms of raw materials.
From the perspective of acetic acid production technology, compared with Celanese, BP and other multinational companies, the traditional domestic methanol carbonylation acetic acid production plant still has a certain gap in terms of production scale, product quality, raw materials and public works consumption. Celanese claims that it has improved the technology of AOPlus on the basis of comparative studies in the industry, which can increase the annual production capacity of acetic acid from the current 1.2 million tons (single reactor) to 1.5 million tons, thereby greatly reducing costs. This technology is applicable to existing and new input devices. If Celanese's technology is successfully applied, it will bring great pressure on the acetic acid industry in China.
From the perspective of the development of downstream derivatives of acetic acid, although the downstream industry chain of the acetic acid industry in China has basically taken shape, the degree of concentration of the industry is very low, and there is a problem of insufficient development of the industry chain. In contrast, the international acetic acid industry giant Celanese, its downstream products are extremely rich, basically including the downstream high-margin industry, has strong competitiveness and resistance to market risk. At present, Celanese is working hard to build an acetyl production base in Nanjing, which is the company's first comprehensive acetyl production base in the world, producing acetic acid, vinyl acetate monomer and ethylene emulsion. BP also established its acetic acid industry chain base in Nanjing and Chongqing. By 2015, the two major multinational giants in China may have an acetic acid production capacity of 2.5 million tons, accounting for about 30% of domestic acetic acid capacity. This will pose tremendous competitive pressure on the entire domestic acetic acid and its downstream product industries.
In addition, from the perspective of resource integration. Most of the domestic acetic acid companies are still in the primary development stage of the scattered and brave type of enterprises. In contrast, foreign multinationals have formed a strong competitive advantage by infiltrating high quality raw material resources globally, recruiting global human resources, strong technology development and new product development inputs, and a sound market structure.
