Recently, Wärtsilä received orders to supply 25 tankers under construction by Volga Shipping Co, Russia's oldest shipping company.
It is reported that the new captain is 140 meters long, with a draft of 4.2 meters and 6979 DWT. Among them, 15 ships of Volga Flot Tanker were built by Okskaya shipyard, the remaining 10 were built by Krasnoe Sormovo shipyard, 5 were Bash Volga Tanker, 5 were Volgotrans, and 3 shipowners were Volga Shipping Co subsidiaries.
The equipment supplied by Wärtsilä includes two 6-cylinder Wärtsilä 20 mainframes for each vessel, for a total of 50. All machinery and equipment is expected to begin delivery this fall, completed in mid-2013, and the first ship is scheduled to operate at the end of 2012.
According to Johan Hansten, President of Wärtsilä Ship Power Sales, Wärtsilä has a constructive partnership with Volga Shipping for many years. When the vessels were still planning, the Wärtsilä engine was chosen to be of course when considering reliable and economical marine equipment. This is the largest single order for the Wärtsilä 20 marine engine in Russia.
The 6-cylinder side-by-side Wärtsilä 20 is a four-stroke diesel engine with MDO or HFO fuel. The Russian market is expected to require 60-80 sets of this type of aircraft each year. Since its introduction in the early 1990s, more than 4,000 Wärtsilä 20 engines have been delivered worldwide.
