Recently, Baosteel has successfully completed the mass production of 8,000 tons of high-quality ship plates for Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard, marking a significant milestone in China's domestic production of LNG carrier materials. These plates are specifically designed for building advanced LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) ships and were delivered on time to the Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding Base. This achievement highlights Baosteel’s leading role in developing and supplying LNG ship plates domestically, establishing its initial capability in producing high-end marine steel products.
At the end of last year, Baosteel, along with its subsidiary and Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard, conducted multiple technical discussions. As a result, Baosteel was selected to supply 8,000 tons of Class A ship plates for the third LNG vessel, accounting for 35% of the total steel used. Following extensive discussions, calculations, and optimizations, the research team finalized the "Technical Plan for Production of LNG Ship Plates." Through rigorous project research, efficient production planning, and strict process control, Baosteel Branch successfully rolled out the batch of LNG ship plates.
The performance of these plates was thoroughly inspected by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), one of the world’s most authoritative classification societies. The results showed that the material properties met or exceeded industry standards, and the dimensions adhered strictly to the requirements set by the customers. This successful delivery not only strengthens Baosteel’s reputation in the maritime sector but also demonstrates its growing technical capabilities in producing specialized steel for high-end shipbuilding.
According to industry reports, China plans to construct 15 LNG vessels by 2011, aiming to establish a dedicated LNG fleet. In response to this demand, Baosteel is actively enhancing its collaboration with Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard, focusing on long-term partnerships and technological innovation. With this latest success, Baosteel is well-positioned to play a key role in supporting China’s growing maritime and energy infrastructure.
