The construction of the 16888-cubic-meter self-propelled suction dredger “Xinhaifeng,†built by Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard Co., Ltd. for China-Hong Kong Dredging Co., Ltd., officially began on September 18. This marks another significant milestone in the development of large-scale dredging vessels, following the successful completion of the domestically designed and constructed 13,500-cubic-meter dredger “Xin Haihu.â€
The “Xinhaifeng†is a massive vessel, measuring 160.9 meters in length, 27 meters in width, and 11.8 meters in depth. Designed by CSSC Corporation in 2007, it is expected to be delivered on November 28, 2008. Compared to its predecessor, the “Xin Haihu,†the “Xinhaifeng†features a larger scale, increased cargo capacity, and more powerful propulsion systems. As a result, the construction process is expected to be more complex and challenging.
According to a company official, the team will continue to uphold the values of “dedication, cooperation, innovation, and continuous improvement.†They plan to draw upon the lessons learned from the construction of the 13,500-cubic-meter dredger, carefully organize the project, and ensure that the “Xinhaifeng†is completed to the highest quality standards and on schedule.
In recent years, Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard has successfully delivered several large dredgers for the Shanghai Waterway Bureau, including 3,800-cubic-meter, 4,200-cubic-meter, and 13,500-cubic-meter models. Throughout these projects, close collaboration between the company and its partners has been key to success. Notably, on May 26 this year, after months of hard work, the “Xin Haihu†was completed and delivered, breaking the previous record that Chinese shipyards could only build dredgers with capacities under 10,000 cubic meters. This achievement highlights the growing capabilities of China's shipbuilding industry in constructing advanced and large-scale marine equipment.
