Qingdao Haijing Chemical Group's PVC byproduct calcium carbide slag is mainly composed of calcium carbonate. Qingdao Thermal Power Co., Ltd. has developed a new post-furnace wet flue gas desulfurization process using this waste as a desulfurizer. Using this technology, the desulfurization efficiency can reach over 92%, and more than 10,000 tons of carbide slag can be consumed each year.
It is reported that the calcium carbide slag desulphurization project of Qingdao Thermal Power will be carried out in two phases. In order to meet the heating requirements of the Olympic Sailing Race, the renovation of the No. 1 furnace in the first phase of the project was completed at the end of July, and the remaining two boilers will be completed by the end of October. After the completion of the project, sulfur dioxide emissions can be reduced by nearly 1,000 tons per year.
