The second is a cost-effective EV charging station designed for both economical production and effortless maintenance.
These prototypes emerged from a challenge issued by the Barcelona City Council two years ago under the InnovAcció 2030 initiative, tasked with addressing key obstacles in expanding electromobility across the city. The trial period for these solutions totals €160,000 and is being conducted at the BSM Plaça Navas car park, located in the vibrant Poble-sec neighborhood.
Barcelona is setting its sights on becoming a trailblazer in electromobility. ZiGGY, the mobile charging unit, resembles a wheeled robot capable of navigating parking spaces autonomously to charge stationary vehicles. Developed by EV Safe Charge—a California-based startup specializing in rapid vehicle charging—ZiGGY represents a leap forward in flexible energy delivery.
The other prototype, crafted by teknoCEA—a Catalan offshoot of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya—boasts not only affordability but also ease of upkeep. These advantages would accelerate the growth of the EV charging infrastructure in Barcelona, encouraging more drivers to transition to electric vehicles.
Endolla Barcelona stands as the region’s premier public network of EV charging stations, boasting 1,000 charging points spread throughout Barcelona, along with over 3,300 active users and an average of 14,000 monthly charges.
