Where Are Deutz-Fahr Tractors Made?

Company History

Deutz-Fahr, a prominent tractor manufacturer based in Lauingen, Germany, has been a key player in the agricultural machinery industry since its inception. Although the current legal entity was established in 1968, the company's origins trace back to 1864 when Nicolaus August Otto founded Motorenfabrik N.A. Otto & Cie, which later evolved into Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz AG (KHD). Otto, alongside Eugene Langen, pioneered the first four-stroke spark ignition engine, a groundbreaking invention that revolutionized power generation. Early engines were primarily used to power horse-drawn machines like threshers and hay balers. Interestingly, these early tractors still relied on horses for steering. In 1927, KHD introduced its first mass-produced tractor, the DEUTZ MTH 222. A decade later, in 1936, they launched the DEUTZ 11 Series, making farming more accessible to small-scale farmers. In 1968, KHD acquired FAHR, a renowned agricultural equipment company, rebranding itself as Deutz-Fahr. Today, Deutz-Fahr boasts a team of approximately 250 engineers and researchers working tirelessly at its state-of-the-art R&D facilities. Collaborating with universities and technical institutions across Europe and Asia, the company continues to innovate, developing cutting-edge tractors tailored to meet modern agricultural needs. As one of the largest tractor manufacturers in Germany, Deutz-Fahr stands shoulder-to-shoulder with brands like Fendt (an AGCO Corporation brand).

Branding

The original Deutz-Fahr logo bore a striking resemblance to the current design, maintaining a consistent aesthetic appeal. The company’s signature color for tractors and farm equipment today is green, a nod to its rich heritage.

Deutz-Allis and AGCO Corporation

Deutz-Allis came into existence in 1985 when Deutz-Fahr acquired the agricultural assets of Allis-Chalmers Corporation. Later, Deutz-Allis was sold to Allis-Gleaner Corporation in 1990, which eventually became AGCO Corporation. In North America, Deutz-Allis tractors and equipment were rebranded as AGCO-Allis. Today, Deutz-Fahr operates independently of Deutz-Allis and AGCO Corporation.

Power Farming Group (PFG)

Power Farming Group (PFG), the largest independent distributor of tractors globally, holds a special relationship with Deutz-Fahr. Founded in 1947 as a family-owned tractor dealership in New Zealand, PFG now serves as Deutz-Fahr's distributor in New Zealand, Australia, and the USA. With 18 company-owned dealerships and over 300 independent dealer customers, PFG ensures seamless service across these regions. Their custom-built facility in Dacula, Georgia, named PFG America, caters specifically to the North American market.

Factories

After nearly three years of meticulous planning, Deutz-Fahr inaugurated Europe’s most advanced tractor factory in 2017 in Lauingen, Germany, aptly named “DEUTZ-FAHR LAND.” Located about 80 miles northwest of Munich, this facility produces the Deutz-Fahr 6 Series, 7 Series, 8 Series, and 9 Series tractors, exporting them worldwide. With a daily production capacity of 40 tractors, the plant cost €90 million to build. Smaller models are manufactured in Treviglio, Italy, and Bandirma, Turkey. Deutz-Fahr also develops its engines under the Deutz brand at its Cologne, Germany plant. Larger tractors are equipped with Deutz engines, while smaller ones utilize Farmotion engines assembled in India.
